Loadshedding and water update.

We have installed solar panels, inverter and batteries and are no longer affected by loadshedding.

We are not affected by the water shortages in White River as we have our own water supply.

Welcome to KU DE TA B&B, White River. We are a professional, purpose build, owner run B&B/Guesthouse in the heart of the South African sub tropical lowveld.

We have 9 en-suite rooms, with either king or queen size beds. Our twin rooms have three quarter beds. All the rooms have their own outside entrances, most with private, outside courtyards, some with additional outside showers and some with large farm-house style verandas ideally suited to the subtropical Lowveld climate. All bedrooms are individually decorated with minimalist, solid, bold, Indonesian Teak furniture to add to the feeling of peace, serenity and tranquility. Free wi fi. Bar fridge, TV, tea and coffee tray and air conditioners in the rooms and the beds are made with pure cotton percale linen. The koi pond meanders all around the house, in and out of the courtyards.

The spacious lounge with the over sized daybeds is ideal for lazy, relaxing afternoons. We serve a full South African breakfast in the dining room, where all the windows and doors can be stacked away to open the entire space to the front garden. Dinner on request, please book a day in advance. The three course dinner is served in the dining room, not in the bedrooms. We do not have a liquor licence, but guests are welcome to bring their own. Please click on the Rate page for pricing.

The lush subtropical garden with it’s rolling lawn, majestic Royal palms, large dappled shade trees, orchids, epiphytic ferns, colourful shrubs and rare collectors plants is a cool escape. Pictures of the rooms and garden are on the media page. Link on the left.

We’re in the country town of White River, amongst all the splendours of the lowveld. Blyde River Canyon, Kruger Park, Historical Barberton and Pilgrims Rest. The Crocodile Gorge or en route to Maputo, or one of the many private Game lodges. Interesting craft shopping at Casterbridge, and dining at Casterbridge and the Bagdad centre at some of the finest restaurants in the Lowveld.

All Expedia users, (Hotels.com , Travelosity , etc.) please read the important announcement at the bottom of our rates page.

I often get asked what the meaning of KU DE TA is, and how I got to the name.

This is the one we all know: coup d’état : a sudden decisive exercise of force in politics; especially the violent overthrow or alteration of an existing government by a small group.

I have no intentions of doing any of that.

There are several others: coup de foudre “love at first sight” and coup de grâce “finishing/final blow”

But this is the one I based it on. It is phonetically written from the French “coup de theater” :  Dramatically sudden, sensational action or turn of events. A theatrical trick or gesture, something staged for dramatic effect. It all refers to something unexpected.
